R2K KZN solidarity for ABM and residents of Cato Crest

R2K KZN solidarity for Abahlali baseMjondolo and residents of Cato Crest: WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO PROTEST!

All the people ask for is decent accommodation.  They were promised this in 1994 but 19 years later when they ask for the fruits of those promises, they are evicted from their informal dwellings and their leaders imprisoned, others are murdered – in other words they have been TOLD TO SHUT UP AND PUT UP!Our democracy has been diluted to such an extent that the ordinary working class people are not only refused protection but our human rights are continually violated.

The RIGHT2KNOW CAMPAIGN:

  • is in solidarity with ABAHLALI baseMJONDOLO against any and all forms of repression and oppression
  • condemns the violence of the police, the Land Invasions Unit, the party thugs and the assassins
  • supports action against those that have perpetrated this violence and encourages a democratic process
  • supports freedom of expression – we have the right to protest!
  • says secrets and lies leads to corruption

Access to information should be open and free and should not be a precursor for violent protests that lead to activists and innocent people being killed and leaders of movements and campaigns being jailed and not given bail so that they can be taught a lesson by the ‘powers that be’.
